Student Engagement and the Arts
The Student Engagement and the Arts department coordinates many opportunities for students to compete, showcase, and participate in academic competitions countywide.Academic competitions hosted by the department include the San Joaquin County Spelling Bee, Academic Decathlon, Mock Trial, Science Olympiad, and the Art Show. The department also hosts the San Joaquin County Honors Concerts, which showcase choir, band, and orchestra performers from grades 6-12 in partnership with the San Joaquin County Music Educators Association (SJCMEA).
Other programs offered by the department include the Artists-in-Schools program – which offers art classes to schools through our teaching staff – and the Color the Summer Arts Camp, which provides art education in an outdoor setting where students can learn, grow, and explore.
Events are made possible in part due to the generous donations made by the SJCOE Educational Foundation. The foundation grants enhance events by purchasing plaques and medals. The Foundation also helps pay to send the winners of County competitions to State and National tournaments.
