As of January 1, 2025, in accordance with Education Code section 44939.5 (as amended by California AB 2534) applicants for certificated positions are required by law to provide a complete list of every school district, county office of education, charter school and/or state special school with which they have previously been employed, regardless of the length of service (includes part-time, full-time and substitute employment).

The Human Resources’ Fingerprinting Office provides Live Scan fingerprinting services, FBI, and DOJ background checks to the public and agencies throughout the county.

The County Office conducts scheduled credential assignment monitoring and review for school districts and provides warrant verification services ensuring valid credential status for certificated staff throughout the county.

Ed Code 45361.5 requires that all San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) Instructional Assistants demonstrate proficiency in basic reading, writing and mathematical skills. 

Demonstration of competency may be satisfied by one of the following:

• Proof of AA or BA Degree (based on standards set by regionally accredited colleges and universities).
• 48 semester units with a C- or better (official transcripts must be provided).
• Successful completion of the basic proficiency test approved and administered by Human Resources of the SJCOE or school districts within San Joaquin County. Note: A tutorial will be distributed prior to taking the exam.

A fee of $7.00 will be charged for the exam (cashier’s check, money order, or major credit card). You will also need to bring a picture I.D. to the test.
