Chartered by the San Joaquin County Board of Education, Venture Academy Family of Schools (VAFS) is one of the largest charter schools in the area. Serving TK-12 students, VAFS offers WASC-accredited programs that feature flexible schedules and sites that develop students’ academic progress while furthering their imagination.

All students at Venture Academy are on independent study and are provided varying levels of on-site support. This support can range from monthly check-in meetings with homeschool teachers to individualized academic support to classes offered on-site four days per week. Enrollment is offered to students within San Joaquin County and any contiguous counties, including Stanislaus, Sacramento, Contra Costa, Calaveras, and Alameda. VAFS features:

Our Philosophy

Venture Academy Family of Schools (VAFS) holds a fundamental belief that individuals learn best in an environment that nurtures creativity and curiosity, expanding understanding of the world through observation, questioning, and testing of theories. A powerful learning environment is one in which students, with the assistance of caring adults, have options in how, when, and where they learn. The learning environment is physically and emotionally safe; the teacher is compassionate, supportive, and trusted; and the curriculum is appropriate, relevant, and intellectually stimulating. Within VAFS, these conditions are met in a variety of educational settings called academies which meet individual needs and interests of the students.

At VAFS, students have opportunities to individualize their instruction based on their ability levels and personal interests, through a wide variety of school offerings. Using a variety of authentic and standardized assessment methods, teachers, parents, and students work to adjust the individualized plan as needed to ensure progress toward meeting educational goals.

Academies

Venture On Challenge Course

The Venture On Challenge Course is part of the Venture Academy Family of Schools' program. Students and staff from school districts come to challenge themselves on the course, which is also open to scouting, professional, and other organizations. The course is a series of physical challenges, for both individuals and groups, that require a combination of teamwork skills and personal commitment.

The course ranges from ground-level games and initiatives to exercises taking place high above the course floor using elements made from utility poles, ropes, and cables. The program provides adventure-learning experiences, challenging individuals to push beyond their perceived limits, work effectively with others, think creatively about problems, learn to trust, and have fun. Trained facilitators lead groups through a series of games, initiative problems, and cooperative activities that promote individual and group development and lead to the experience of climbing on the course's high elements.
