San Joaquin County is home to 14 public school districts with 245 schools, including charter schools, and a total of 152,956 students. Collaborative efforts between the San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) and school districts ensure students have access to a high-quality education. The SJCOE also offers a variety of schools and educational programs for students, including children with special needs, those referred by social services probation, or who are part of the Juvenile Court and Community Schools program.

The Community Active Response to Education (CARE) program is designed to provide ninth grade students in need of additional support with the tools, resources, and other assistance to be successful throughout their high school careers.

Come Back Kids (CBK) is a free, mostly online educational program that is offered through the SJCOE's County Operated Schools and Programs division that can help anyone 18 years and older earn their high school diploma.

Discovery ChalleNGe Academy

Discovery ChalleNGe Academy is a partnership between the California National Guard and the SJCOE for youth between the ages of 16 and 18 who have dropped out of high school, are at risk of dropping out, or are credit deficient.

Greater Valley Conservation Corps

The Greater Valley Conservation Corps helps youth aged 18 to 26 years old with academic instruction, employment opportunities, green job training, life skills, and much more. It is the only certified local conservation corps in the state operated by a county office of education.

Head Start Preschool and Early Head Start programs promote the school readiness of children from income-eligible families, ages birth to five, and expectant mothers by supporting the whole child’s development.

San Joaquin Building Futures Academy / YouthBuild

San Joaquin Building Futures Academy (SJBFA) is a public school for students in San Joaquin County who participate in the SJCOE YouthBuild program. SJBFA is a high school dropout credit recovery program that offers grades 9-12 and serves youth ages 18-24.
