We collect personal information directly from individuals who voluntarily use some of our services.  Personal information identifies or describes an individual, such as:

Before or at the time of collecting personal information, we will identify the purposes for which the information is being collected. If you participate in activities requiring specific information (e.g., requests for assistance, website personalization, emails, surveys), we collect more data. When you browse or download information from the SJCOE website, you automatically disclose certain information, such as:

• Your browser and/or operating system type
• The date and time of your visit
• The pages or services you accessed
• The website you visited before ours
• Downloaded forms

This site, like many other sites, temporarily records this basic information about visits to our site to help us improve our web services and understand website usage.

SJCOE uses data tracking and analytics to help understand how visitors engage with the site. Information monitored is anonymous and include information such as:

• Page hits 
• Time spent on certain pages
•  Language used
• Time of views
• Type of device used (i.e., mobile, desktop, tablet).

Personal information will not be stored or shared outside of SJCOE. The information will only be used to help SJCOE keep its site updated and user-friendly.

SJCOE has security measures in place to protect its telecommunications and computing infrastructure, including authentication, monitoring, auditing, and encryption. These measures are integrated into our operations as part of our risk management efforts to protect your personal information from loss and/or misuse. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

This system is monitored for proper operation, security verification, and similar purposes. Using this system means you consent to this monitoring. Unauthorized attempts to modify information, bypass security, or use the system for unintended purposes are prohibited and may lead to prosecution.

We will retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or as required by law. When we no longer need your information, we will securely dispose of it.

Your personally identifiable information will not be sold, exchanged, or distributed without your consent, except when we believe that the release of such information is reasonably necessary to comply with the law, enforce or apply the terms of our user agreements, or protect the rights, property, or safety of SJCOE, its website users, or others.  

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We may use cookies for specific website functionality. These cookies may remain on your computer unless deleted. We may use session cookies that are automatically deleted when you close your browser.

You can refuse or delete cookies, but this might limit access to some website features or interactive applications.

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) feature. Currently, the SJCOE website does not respond to DNT signals. We will update this Privacy Policy if this changes in the future. Cal. Bus & Prof. Code § 22575(b)(5).

SJCOE may accept content submissions from third-parties for programs, events, or resources that support SJCOE’s educational mission and services. Publicizing an offering on our Site does not imply endorsement or quality assurance by SJCOE. Similarly, references to specific commercial products, processes, or services on our Site do not constitute endorsement. Any opinions expressed by third-party contributors on this Site do not reflect opinions or positions of SJCOE. 

This Privacy Policy only addresses the use and disclosure of information SJCOE may collect from you.  Our Site may contain links to websites of other outside organizations and resources. These external sites may send their own cookies to users, collect data, or solicit personal information. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy policies or practices of third parties. Any links to such third-party websites are provided solely for the purpose of enhancing SJCOE’s educational mission and services.  SJCOE makes no representations or warranties as to the accuracy of, or any other aspect relating to, these third-party sites.  We encourage you to the learn about the privacy policies and practices of those organizations.

Our Site is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. We ask that children under the age of 13 not submit any personal information, including user profiles. Minors should use these services only with their parents or guardians. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it from our systems promptly.

This policy became effective March 11, 2025. We may update or modify this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in the law and/or in the ways we collect, use, or share personal information.
