Message from the Superintendent
Dear Community Members,
The information that has emerged in recent days regarding César Chávez has been both deeply troubling and disturbing. It is heartbreaking to learn of credible allegations of abuse committed by someone our community has looked up to for so long.
This issue should be important to all of us. My thoughts go first to all survivors of this abuse who have bravely come forward to share their stories and their struggles. This includes Dolores Huerta, whose courage and character are well known to us for her role in the farmworkers’ movement that started in our region.
Movements rooted in justice and equity are larger than any one person. The work to protect the rights of farmworkers in our communities must continue with resolve, transparency, and integrity. We must not let this tarnish the legacy of this fight, which has improved the lives of so many in our county and in our country.
These allegations are a reminder of the importance of taking a stand against sexual abuse. We all must do our part. As educators, we are committed to creating safe environments for all our students. We are also committed to working alongside families and the community to give students the tools and support they need to remain safe.
Sincerely,
Troy A. Brown, Ed.D.
