Pursuant to Education Code Section 29066.5(2)(b), a parent, guardian, or education rights holder of a student or, for a student 18 years of age or older, the student who was enrolled in high school and enrolled in a course during the 2020-21 school year may apply to San Joaquin County Office of Education’s (SJCOE) County Operated Schools and Programs (COSP) to have a letter grade earned for that course, as reflected on the student’s transcript, changed to a Pass or No Pass grade.
Notwithstanding any other law, grade changes:
- Shall not negatively affect a student’s grade point average
- Shall not result in the forfeiture of the student’s eligibility to state or institutional student financial aid.
- The California State University shall accept transcripts with a Pass or No Pass grade instead of a letter grade for any coursework taken during the 2020-21 school year.
- Private postsecondary educational institutions and the University of California are encouraged to accept transcripts with a Pass or No Pass grade instead of a letter grade for any coursework taken during the 2020-21 school year.
For the 2020–21 through 2023–24 school year, these postsecondary institutions will accept, for admission purposes, a transcript with a Pass or No Pass grade instead of a letter grade for an applicant pursuant to Education Code Section 49066.5(b). Please note that some postsecondary educational institutions, including those in other states, may not accept a Pass or No Pass grade instead of a letter for admission purposes.
To submit a grade change request, please complete the Grade Change Request Form and return it to the Student Services office located at 2707 Transworld Drive, Stockton, CA 95206 or oneenrollment@sjcoe.net.
Grade change requests for the 2020-21 school year are due to the Student Services office by August 11, 2021. Applications will not be accepted after this date.
