Quality Counts

System of support focuses on raising quality of early care and education in San Joaquin County

Quality counts, especially when it comes to preparing our youngest children for future success. And high-quality early care and education provided at centers and family childcare homes don't happen by accident. It takes expertise, passion, and support.

The In The Classroom feature in the latest Outlook looks at the San Joaquin County Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS), a framework for defining high-quality early care and education for children from birth to age 5. We spend some time at the Hawkins-Thompson Child Development Center in Tracy to see firsthand how QRIS coaching, training, funding, and other support continues to make improvements at just one of 88 participating sites.
