This year's competition will ask teams to develop an innovative app related to California dams. The team with the winning app at the end of the daylong competition on March 16 will walk away with the Golden Spigot Award and a cash prize, provided by Cal Water.

Registration is open now. This year the contest has expanded to include college students attending school in the county. High school teams must also include an instructor. Competitors will build their apps on the IBM Cloud development platform. Training sessions before the competition will be held at the San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE). Learn more and register to compete at www.h2ohackathon.org/.

Organized by the SJCOE and iHub San Joaquin, the H2O Hackathon provides students an opportunity to experience real-world applications of the science, engineering, and other skills they are learning in school. At the same time, the products created by students during the Hackathon could become valuable tools to help California find solutions to some of the problems surrounding issues of water.

he Fourth Annual H2O Hackathon will be held at the SJCOE on March 16. Approximately 100 teachers and students will be able to compete.
