Peer Program Development
A strong and effective Peer-to-Peer Support Program trains people in the development of very specific communication and helping skills, so they may utilize those skills in an organized, step-by-step manner, to provide services to other same-age people. Peer Support Programs provide social-emotional support, prevention, education, intervention, and referral services to individuals by training same-age Peer Supporters in communication, self-awareness, decision-making and other assistance skills. Although secondary schools are probably the most popular sites for Peer Support Programs, these programs and services have been established in the workplace, at universities, colleges, hospitals, clinics, community centers, unions, businesses and corporations
