The Autistic Life: Ian Smith and his family have come a long way in the past 26 years. Ian was diagnosed with autism long before the current wave of kids in our educational system. Speaking as both a teacher and as a parent, Hank offers a unique view of autism. From the terrifying rages, to help his son find his way through an educational system that was still learning how to educate kids like him, from working through the college system, to helping Ian learn to live on his own and finally find a career, Hank offers an inside view of his family’s journey. Parents will hear what it’s like working with children on the spectrum in a regular classroom. Educators will get important insight into what life is like at home for the families of their students. A question and answer segment with both Hank and Ian will end the presentation.
