To promote inclusivity and universal digital access, the San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) is committed to ensuring that information on our website and other supported platforms is accessible to all individuals, including those with visual, auditory, or cognitive disabilities.
Compliance standards
In a dedicated effort to meet modern digital standards, SJCOE strives to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, established by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and user-friendly for everyone.
While these guidelines offer three levels of accessibility (A, AA, and AAA), SJCOE has adopted Level AA as our primary target for website compliance.
Technical Specifications & Third-Party Content
The majority of content on the SJCOE site is provided in HTML format, which is optimized for screen readers. Some supplemental documents are provided in Adobe PDF format. If you do not have the necessary software, you may download Adobe Acrobat Reader free of charge.
Please note that the SJCOE website may contain links to third-party platforms. As these sites are not under SJCOE’s direct control, they may not meet the same accessibility standards. SJCOE is not responsible for the content or accessibility of external websites.
Strategic Process
The SJCOE has implemented the following measures to ensure ongoing improvement of our digital environment:
- Dedicated Oversight: Established a central task force responsible for managing and driving accessibility initiatives.
- Professional Development: Providing accessibility training to all departmental content managers.
- Independent Auditing: Utilizing third-party accessibility auditors or platform to provide automated reporting on progress and identify areas for remediation.
- Routine Maintenance: Conducting regular internal audits and technical "clean-up" of webpages to maintain compliance standards.
