BTSA Induction

The San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) established an induction program to serve the teachers of Amador, Calaveras, Contra Costa, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, and Tulare counties in the spring of 2002. The SJCOE Induction Program represents a collaborative effort among school districts, district intern programs, colleges and universities, county offices of education, and the SJCOE Induction Program leadership.

It is the goal of the Induction Program to offer a program of support and advanced curriculum preparation for preliminary credentialed teachers designed to further their learning and strengthen the application skills and abilities attained during the preliminary preparation program. Teachers participating in the BTSA Induction Program earn their Professional Clear Credential.

The SJCOE Induction Program is tied to the California Standards for the Teaching Profession, the state-adopted academic content standards, frameworks and performance levels for students thus offering participants the opportunity to be responsive to local educational priorities and goals for student learning.

Beginning teachers benefit from a two-year induction program in several ways. They receive support and guidance from a trained veteran teacher, or “Support Provider”. They also participate in release time meetings to work with the Support Provider to attend sponsored professional development activities. In addition, they have no-cost access to SJCOE coursework through the induction program and to professional development activities provided by the SJCOE Induction Program. Beginning teachers develop their knowledge and skills in using the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP), the state-adopted academic content standards and performance levels for students, and the state-adopted curriculum frameworks. Finally, beginning teachers learn to use a formative assessment system that allows them to reflect on their teaching practices and to grow as a professional teacher.
