Deputy Superintendent for Student Programs and Services Mick Founts, Ed.D

Deputy Superintendent for Student Programs and Services Mick Founts is charged with overseeing all programs providing direct services to students offered by the County Office of Education including Court and Community Schools, Educational Services, and SELPA / Special Education.

Founts earned his bachelor of arts degree in English from Humboldt State University. He later obtained his master’s degree in education and an administrative credential and pupil personnel services credential. In 1995 he was awarded a Doctorate of Education from University of the Pacific.

During his career in education, Founts has been a classroom teacher, football coach, assistant principal, coordinator of child welfare and attendance, director of alternative programs, assistant superintendent, and an associate superintendent before assuming his current position as Deputy Superintendent of Student Programs and Services in 2003.

Founts joined San Joaquin County Office of Education in the early 1990’s when he founded the one. program which has been recognized by a variety of local, state and national organizations as one of the most innovative educational programs for otherwise out-of-school youth in California. Today the one. program serves more than 5,500 court and community school youth, ages 5 – 24.
