Give Every Child A Chance Give Every Child A Chance (GECAC) is an education based mentor/tutoring program that was founded in 1997 to provide free tutoring services to students in Manteca Unified School District. We have now expanded into four separate school districts, Manteca, Ripon, Banta and Escalon Unified School Districts. These districts represent very different and distinct communities in San Joaquin County. Students K-12 qualify for our program who are in Special Education, have a “D” or “F” on their report card or receive a teacher referral. GECAC has expanded and now offers eight separate programs: One on One mentor/tutoring, Homework Assistance Program, After School Advantage Program (students must attend the school where the program is conducted), Reading to the 2nd Power, Computer Assisted Instructional Tutoring, Health Education, Technology Outreach, and Summer Drop-in Homework Help. We currently operate 34 sites in San Joaquin County. During the 2007-08 school year we served over 2,500 youth. An independent report from San Joaquin Data Co-op shows that nearly 8 out of 10 students in our program improved grades. For more information, please call 825-7003.
