Reading First Regional Technical Assistance Center
Reading First is a national initiative aimed at improving reading instruction in K-3 classrooms and ensuring that all students can read in English by the end of the third grade. The Reading First Regional Technical Assistance Center housed at SJCOE is one of eight in California. The SJCOE R-TAC serves 16 districts located in San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Fresno, and Tulare counties. Three-year renewable grants of $6,500 per classroom are awarded to support professional development in reading. Grant funds must be spent on professional development, coaching, monitoring the implementation of state approved curriculum, internal evaluation, and content-related training. Round 4 applications will be available in spring of 2006. To learn more about Reading First Regional Technical Assistance Center visit: http://www.sjcoertac.org
