About RSDSS

Highlights

  • The S4 regional centers help build and sustain schools' capacities to improve the academic achievement of all students through:
  • Regional institutes on comprehensive planning, comprehensive school reform, and plan writing
  • Assistance in comprehensive planning, needs assessment, standards, assessment, and accountability customized to meet the individual needs of schools and districts
  • Tools for streamlining multiple state and federal planning requirements into one data-driven, comprehensive school plan
  • Leadership and support throughout the state in the implementation of a standards-based assessment and accountability system
  • Multimedia materials and resources for building the capacities of districts and schools to:
    • Clearly define a vision of what all students should know and be able to do.
    • Establish priorities based on analysis of data collected in comprehensive needs assessments.
    • Write a plan which clarifies how the school community will ensure that all students master rigorous standards.
    • Help schools and districts engage in continuous improvement process.
  • Tools for coordinating programs and funds from multiple federal and state sources into one focused improvement effort
  • Professional development to improve teaching and learning
  • Networks of principals, teachers, and school leadership teams to promote collaboration and sharing of strategies and information

Major Goals of the S4 Regional System of District and School Support

The S4 regional centers work in collaboration with districts, the Comprehensive Assistance Centers, and the Department in the following areas:
  • Coordination of services, resources, and technical assistance to schools and districts receiving Title I funds
  • Assistance in conducting a comprehensive assessment of needs and analysis of data
  • Support in the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of comprehensive school improvement plans
  • Identification and selection of research-based school reform designs
  • Promotion of meaningful parent, community, and business involvement in school reform efforts
  • Regional professional development on high-priority topics identified by the Department, schools, and districts
