Health Academy - Medical Assistant
Prerequisites
16 years of age
10th Grade Education or GED
California Resident
Current Photo Identification
Requirements for Completion
1080 hours – 10 months full-time.
Course Objective
The Medical Assistant course presents all the elements necessary to meet the objective of becoming successfully employed as a Medical Assistant. Training includes, but is not limited to, medical terminology, body structure and function, law and ethics, safety and maintenance, communications, socio-economics, employment literacy, assisting the physician and office skills.
Class Schedules
Morning Class
8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Monday through Friday
Afternoon Class
12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Monday through Friday
Components of the Program
Medical Assistant Administration is required of all students. This core provides information and skills common to all Medical Assistant. Course includes both didactic and laboratory instruction, units on career orientation, medical terminology, body structure and function, law and ethics, emergency care, introduction to pharmacology, safety & maintenance, medical records management, introduction to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, communications and interpersonal skills and job preparedness.
Clinical Medical Assistant provides courses in medical/surgical asepsis, physical examination, office surgery, EKG, administration of medication, laboratory examination, office surgery, laboratory skills, assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and specialized medical practice.
