Food Service Occupations for CalWorks Participants
Referrals are being taken for this twelve-week course for CalWORKs participants. This class is designed to prepare graduates for entry into the food services industry. Graduates of the ROP Food Service Occupations course will be trained in food preparation, baking, cashiering, food serving, catering, dining room attendant, Chef Assistant, Cook Assistant, Short-order Cook, and other related jobs. Job retention skills training is included in this course.
Working in food service occupations requires working in close quarters, standing for extended time periods, early morning or late evening working hours and during holidays. Important qualifications include the ability to work as part of a team, possessing a keen sense of taste and smell, and personal cleanliness.
Minimum Requirements:
Good physical health and free from communicable disease
Reading and mathematics skills at 6th Grade level
This is a 12-week program – 7 hours per day.
Food Services Classroom:
(4 weeks)
CalWorks Employment Center, 900 E. Oak 3rd Floor, Stockton
Food Services On-Site Training:
(4 weeks)
(Senior Service Agency, 224 South Sutter, Stockton
Community Classroom:
(4 weeks)
Business site placement (non-paid on-the-job training)
On-site Training Hours: (varying shifts) 6:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., 7:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
