Reading Implementation Center (RIC)

San Joaquin County Reading Implementation Center (RIC) provides teachers and administrators intensive, continuing professional development through the SB 472 and AB 430 programs.

SB 472 (formerly AB 466) provides educators with the opportunity to work with state-adopted reading/language arts programs. The ongoing professional development model begins with Year 1 and builds through 4 levels of training. The San Joaquin County RIC serves an 11-county region, including Calaveras, Kings, Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tulare, and Tuolumne counties.

AB 430 (formerly AB 75) offers training to develop principals' and assistant principals' leadership skills. In addition, the RIC offers assistance in completing the AB 430 practicum plan.

National Board Certification is another area of responsibility for the RIC. National Board is an intensive and rigorous professional development experience in which individual teachers commit to a year of study, reflection, and guided examination of their practice. National certification improves teacher quality, recognizes accomplished teachers, and builds leadership capacity.
