SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY STUDENTS SHOWCASE KNOWLEDGE AT ACADEMIC DECATHLON
Manteca High takes first-place overall at 34th Annual San Joaquin County Academic Decathlon
Excitement was in the air at the 34th Annual Academic Decathlon Competition, held January 31 and February 7, 2015, at the San Joaquin County Office of Education and Lathrop High School. Competing were 12 San Joaquin County high schools. The 2015 theme is New Alternatives in Energy. The Decathlon included essay, interview, and speech competitions, objective tests in art, economics, language/literature, math, music, social science, science, and a high-energy Super Quiz.
Three divisions of scholars per nine member team:
3 Honors (3.75-4.0+)
3 Scholastic (3.00-3.74)
3 Varsity (0.00-2.99)

Top Overall School: Manteca High School, Manteca Unified School District
Manteca High School received the Dave Sorgent Winner’s Cup and will compete at the Academic Decathlon State Championship in Sacramento, California in March.
2nd place overall: Middle College, Lodi Unified School District
3rd place overall: Stockton Early College Academy, Stockton Unified School District
Overall Top-Scoring Student: Zachary Benjamin, Middle College
(Received $1000 Walter Rathhaus Award)
Top Three Super Quiz Teams (Received individual medals and a team plaque)
1st: Middle College, Lodi Unified School District
2nd: Manteca High School, Manteca Unified School District
3rd: Stockton Early College Academy, Stockton Unified School District
