Embrace the Race

Technology is the fast lane to success and MUSD is dedicating more than $30 million to making sure its students are prepared for the future.

Technology is the fast lane to success and Manteca Unified School District (MUSD) is dedicating more than $30 million to making sure its students are prepared for the future. Starting mid-January 2015, every student within the district will have a computer—that is 23,000 plus computers!

“Going Digital 2015 is a commitment to the School Board of Trustees and our community. There was a clear demand to transform public education in order to prepare our students for their future. A critical shift in the learning experience,” explained Superintendent Jason Messer. “Our teachers are that critical path. Their dedication and commitment to growth in developing digital learners will be the success story.”

There were devastating effects on schools due to the recession. MUSD decided to use the undesignated one time money that Governor Jerry Brown and the State allocated to schools to help the district leapfrog into the future. The goal is to ensure that the infrastructure is sustainable for the next seven years and that every student within the district has a computer.

Each student will receive a rugged, student friendly, Microsoft Windows 8.1, two-in-one tablet computer that comes loaded with the Microsoft Office Suite, a keyboard, 12-hours of battery life, and everything students need to access the digital world and STEM curricula and opportunities.

In addition, Panasonic, Microsoft, and Intel have partnered together to provide engineering support and professional development for the district. All three companies are actively listening to educators and responding in the development of this computer, which will change teaching and learning forever.
