Board Recognizes Venture Academy Cross Country Team

Boys took first in the CCAA league, girls took second

The Venture Academy Family of Schools Cross Country Team received recognition from the County Board of Education for their accomplishment at the Central California Athletic Alliance (CCAA) competition.

The boys placed first in the CCAA league, and the girls placed second in the CCAA league.

“The kids worked really hard, every single day,” Coach John Hittle said. “They really stepped it up this year.”

The Venture Academy runners excelled on the hill portion of the races, Coach Timothy Welsh said, despite the lack of hills in the areas where they trained.

“We had to get creative,” Welsh said. There are a few dirt hills in the industrial area that we would train on.

Welsh also commented on the determination that the students had to succeed, despite the running routes they trained on.

“The film McFarland, USA inspired them, I think,” Welsh added with a smile.

This is only the second year that Venture Academy Family of Schools has had a Cross Country Team. Hittle said the season started with more than 50 runners. Last year the team began with only 30 runners.
