Book Fair to Raise Money for New Juvenile Hall Library

Barnes & Noble book fair with the SJCOE will support one.John F. Cruikshank Jr. School library

The soon-to-open library inside the San Joaquin County Juvenile Justice Center will get help stocking its shelves with a book fair at Barnes & Noble starting on Oct. 23.

Money raised at the book fair will go toward buying books and academic magazines at the San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) one.John F. Cruikshank Jr. School library.

The book fair runs from Oct. 23 through Oct. 31 at Barnes & Noble in the Weberstown Mall in Stockton. The book fair ID number is 11701851, but shoppers only need to tell the clerk they are there supporting the SJCOE book fair. Shoppers can support the library online, too, by entering the same ID number from Oct. 23 through Nov. 5 when shopping at www.BN.com/bookfairs. The new library gets a higher percentage of sales from in-store earnings during the book fair, and purchases at the Starbucks Café go toward the total, including the sale of 1-pound bags of coffee and whole cheesecakes.

The one.John F. Cruikshank Jr. School is an SJCOE Court School and part of the SJCOE one. program. Students at the school are adjudicated youth located at the San Joaquin County Juvenile Justice Center, which is operated by the San Joaquin County Probation Office.  School curriculum is designed to help students develop an appreciation of themselves and others in an environment that is balanced between state standards and individual needs. The focus is on problem solving, critical thinking and successful transition skills.

The new library is part of a broader effort to improve literacy of one.Cruikshank students.
