YouthBuild San Joaquin Awarded for Fiscal Prudence

Construction program for troubled youth wins national award

YouthBuild San Joaquin  (YBSJ) returned from a national conference with an award recognizing the strength of the program, both in its fiscal management and its ability to help the young people in the program build brighter futures.

Of the 80 YouthBuild AmeriCorps programs in the United States, only YBSJ received the Protecting the Investment award from the 2015 Rowland T. Watkins YouthBuild AmeriCorps Impact Awards at a national conference in Boston.

“This category recognizes a program that has done an exceptional job to protect the AmeriCorps investment in their members and program,” said Lauren Vermouth, AmeriCorps portfolio manager for YouthBuild USA. “The bottom line is that this program takes their responsibility to the members seriously and works diligently to protect this investment.”

YBSJ also keeps diligent financial records, maintains excellent member files and has strong policies and procedures, Vermouth said.

Through hands-on construction training and other services, YouthBuild helps troubled young people get back on track and prepared for careers.
