Collaborative Conversations

A workshop that will give teachers knowledge and resources to develop disciplinary knowledge, challenge thinking, and much more!

The Common Core State Standards for Speaking and Listening require students to participate in collaborative conversations about grade-level topics and texts. This workshop will provide teachers with knowledge and resources to implement meaningful discourse practices and foster student interactions to develop disciplinary knowledge, challenge thinking, and push students to use the complex language. Participants will learn: 1) What collaborative conversations are and why they are important to students' success; 2) How collaborative conversations are addressed in California’s Common Core State Standards; and 3) How to teach the structures, skills, and language required to support all students, including English learners, in collaborative conversations.
