Pilot program to graduate first students Monday

STOCKTON — The first group of students will graduate Monday from a new pilot program aimed not only at equipping job seekers with essential training and skills but at placing them into full-time employment as well.

Students were taught how to install flooring and carpet and helped lay carpet and vinyl at the Grant Village Apartment Complex as part of their three-week apprentice-level training. They’ll receive a certificate and will be hired by Floormasters Inc., which launched the no-cost partnership with the San Joaquin County Office of Education, Human Service Agency, Housing Authority of San Joaquin, Habitat for Humanity of San Joaquin, California Human Development, San Joaquin County WorkNet, Visionary Homebuilders, and YouthBuild San Joaquin.
