On January 10, nearly 300 students from 10 San Joaquin County districts shared their musical talents at the 2015 San Joaquin County High School Honors Concert, held at San Joaquin Delta College Atherton Auditorium. The concert marks 60 years of Musical Services provided by the San Joaquin County Office of Education.
Gifted students from high schools throughout the County were chosen to participate in the Honor Band, Honor Orchestra, and Honor Choir. This year, there was representation from every district with a high school.
Fifteen seniors received the Nelson Zane Award for participating in Honor Band and Choir all four years of high school. They were as follows: Orchestra members - Sallie Lu, Tyler Nakuae, and Marielle Champagne of Lincoln High School (Lincoln Unified School District); Gabriela Soria of Weston Ranch High School (Manteca Unified School District); Nicholas Hsiao of West High School (Tracy Unified School District); and Jessica Hurst of Tracy High School (Tracy Unified School District).
Choir members - Brittany Amezcua and William Hollingsworth of Ripon High School (Ripon Unified School District); Jacqueline Paneda of Lathrop High School (Manteca Unified School District); and Michelle McGuire of St. Mary’s High School (Diocese of Stockton).
Band members - Tristin Arce and Billy Ornellas of Tracy High School (Tracy Unified School District); Bryant Grover of West High School (Tracy Unified School District); Joshua Lemos of Lathrop High School (Manteca Unified School District); and Leone Rivers of Escalon High School (Escalon Unified School District).
All of the four-year award winners were eligible to apply for the Nelson Zane Memorial Scholarship. Applicants submitted an application and essay for a chance to receive a $250.00 scholarship. The 2015 Nelson Zane Memorial Scholarship winners are: Orchestra member, Sallie Lu of Lincoln High School; Choir member, Michelle McGuire of St. Mary’s High School; and Band member, Billy Ornellas of Tracy High School.
