SJRCC known for its outstanding recycling

San Joaquin Regional Conservation Corps (SJRCC) Recycling program won the California Resource Recovery Association (CRRA) Outstanding Recycling Award.

San Joaquin Regional Conservation Corps (SJRCC) Recycling program won the California Resource Recovery Association (CRRA) Outstanding Recycling Program Award on August 5, 2014.

SJRCC launched its comprehensive recycling program in 2010 to fulfill the unmet waste reduction and recycling needs of schools, non-profit organizations, and small businesses. Currently, the SJRCC provides recycling services to organizations in five counties.

The Annual Awards recognize programs and people who are “going above and beyond” in their efforts to prevent waste, reuse materials, recycle, compost, buy recycled and build green. It is CRRA’s intent to praise outstanding achievers in California, publicize their successes and share successful efforts throughout the state.

“SJRCC is one of the few organizations in our area that provides triple bottom line benefits to our community helping to create a region that is sustainable for all,” stated Evan Porges, President of Prime Shine, Inc.

The program greatly benefits the regional environment and economy. Many small businesses, schools and local governments are struggling to survive financially and the comprehensive recycling services provided by the SJRCC saves them money from avoided disposal costs. Over the two and a half years, the SJRCC has saved its partners roughly $16,699 in avoided disposal costs and recycled over 979,243 pounds of beverage containers, paper and other materials. The SJRCC also is helping to educate our community on the importance of recycling using the Recycle iQ system, which provides recycling clients with real-time recycling performance information to maximize recycling levels.
