Exercise Across California culminating event

Top mile-earners visit Golden Gate Bridge

Earlier this year, 12 schools throughout San Joaquin County kicked off the fifth year of Exercise Across California, a program challenging nearly 1,000 third- through sixth-grade students to walk, skip, run, or jump 2,126 miles, the distance around the state of California.

Students virtually visited 13 historic landmarks along their journey and were encouraged to improve health and wellness through physical fitness and nutrition. The program concluded with a culminating event where top mile-earners from participating schools traveled to San Francisco where they walked 1.7 miles across the Golden Gate Bridge, one of the landmarks students virtually visited during the program, and attended a Giants game.

Exercise Across California is funded through the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Community Benefit Program and is made possible through partnerships with U.C. Cooperative Extension, San Joaquin Public Health, and Network for a Healthy California.
