Students get a kick out of exercise
November 8, 2012

MANTECA - Shasta Elementary fourth-grade students and their families kicked off the 2012-13 Exercise Across California Program on Wednesday morning. Fourteen other schools in San Joaquin County also are participating. As part of the program, students are being challenged to walk, skip, run or jump 2,126 miles, the distance around California.

The San Joaquin County Office of Education and Kaiser Permanente initiated the Exercise Across California program in 2009 in an effort to motivate children to be active and healthy. In addition to the exercise, students also virtually visit 13 historic landmarks along their statewide journey. At the end of the program, three students from each school will have the opportunity to visit the Golden Gate Bridge and attend a San Francisco Giants game.

Six Stockton Unified schools, TEAM Charter School in Stockton, two Manteca Unified, two Tracy Unified and five Lodi Unified schools are participating in Exercise Across California.
