Venture receives PG&E Green Energy Grant
Outlook: November issue

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) in conjunction with the California Department of Education (CDE) selected Venture Academy Family of Schools to take part in its new Green Energy Academy pilot program.

“The program will help strengthen Venture Academy Family of Schools’ Green-it Pathway, where students learn about various subjects such as alternative energy sources,” said Kathleen Foccaci, director of Venture Academy Family of Schools.

The program aims to prepare students for opportunities in the rapidly emerging green energy field, while providing a learning experience that is academically rigorous with a real-world focus.

“Green energy is a growing field that is critical to turn the tide on climate change,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell. “I am excited that students in this program will be learning about technologies that can help the entire planet.”

Curriculum planning for the new Green Energy Academy program has already begun. Educators selected to teach the courses will spend nearly a year researching and developing course content. Venture Academy Family of Schools is one of five schools in the state to receive this honor and will receive a $25,000 grant, as well as access to professional development workshops and industry experts.
