Painting as easy as 1-2-3
Outlook: November issue

IMG_6546.JPGThe view from Library Park in Manteca became breathtakingly beautiful in just two short days.

As part of the Manteca Mural Society’s fifth Mural-In-A-Weekend project, members of the community volunteered to try their hand at being a professional muralist. As a result, a wall on the 100 block of Manteca Avenue is now covered in “Manteca Snow,” a tribute to the little white blossoms that fall from local almond trees leaving a blanket of “snow” over the town.

With the talent of master muralist Dave Gordon and guest artist Ella Yates, volunteers of all skill levels worked together using a paint-by-numbers system to paint the mural one small section at a time.

“Every little bit that each person contributes goes a long way,” said Tom Wilson, Manteca Mural Society Co-Creator and Coordinator. “We hope that this group effort approach allows Manteca residents to take pride in beautifying the city with world class art.”

The Manteca Mural Society has finished 10 out of 30 planned murals for Manteca. The next project is the Student Mural Contest in which students who attend or live within Manteca Unified School District boundaries will have the opportunity to design and paint a mural.

Students must submit a mural design to the Manteca Mural Society by December 1. The winning design will be awarded $250; second-place, $100; and third-place, $50. The high school of the winning student or group of students will be awarded $500 in art supplies. All winners will have the opportunity to work with a contracted artist to paint the mural.
