Migrant Education Region 23

Region 23 Migrant Education serves San Joaquin and Contra Costa Counties, providing children of migrant workers supplementary health as well as academic programs and services. Support may come in the form of college scholarships, English classes, GED preparation, and job training.

Migrant Education realizes that migrant employment forces workers to move many times throughout the year, so the department supports children and their caretakers by hosting workshops to connect parents and guardians to appropriate resources.

The federal government established and funded the Migrant Education Program. Migrant Education, Region 23 of San Joaquin and Contra Costa Counties serves over 22,000 students in 21 school districts. It provides services to students from ages three to 22 (if the student has not graduated from high school). The program provides supplementary health, academic, and support services. In addition, there is an active component for parental involvement.

A student qualifies for the Migrant Education Program if he or she has moved across state or school district lines with a migrant parent or guardian to obtain temporary or seasonal employment in an agricultural, fishing or food processing activity within the past three years.
