Migrant Education Even Start (MEES) / First 5 The MEES program is a program designed to break the cycle of poverty and improve the literacy of migrant families through a unified program of family literacy services. This is a statewide, home-based literacy education model. MEES services are provided to migrant families with children ages 3-5. Preschool Tutors work in the home with migratory parents and their children providing parenting skills and early childhood education services. This project provides a number of services and stategies to help parents and children meet their educational goals and to support parents in ther role as their child's first teacher. The MEES / First 5 project is a state funded program.
Migrant Education Family Literacy Even Start (Fed MEES) The Fed MEES program is modeled under the William F. Goodling Even Start Family Literacy programs. Services are provided to migratory families with children age 0-7. Parents receive services to enhance literacy levels, expand parenting skills, and learn English -as-a-second language. Children in the program are provided early childhood and preschool services. This project is a home-based and school-based family literacy education model. There are three project sites, all three of which are operated on the Migrant Labor Camps in San Joaquin County. The Fed MEES project is a federally funded program.
First 5 School Readinesses The Migrant Education First 5 School Readiness Program provides a comprehensive list of services for children ages 0-5. The program focus is on preparring children to enter kindergarten healthy and ready to learn. Early childhood education services include home visits for all children by a certified Parent Educator, early screening for special needs and disabilities, health and insurance screenings, parent meetings with topics on parenting, nutrition, and community resources. Preschool classes are offered on each school site for children 3-5 years of age and Kinder academics are offered each summer at each site. The Migrant Education First 5 School Readiness Program is funded by local and state matching funds.
