The institute is a 15-hour professional learning opportunity for paraprofessionals who work with English learners. The academic content is designed to advance the participants’ knowledge of English learner topics as well as effective strategies used to teach small groups of students. The strategies are modeled and explicitly discussed in order to expand the participants’ repertoire of teaching practices. An essential component of the model is the time given between sessions so participants have the opportunity to practice what they are learning.
