About Our Staff

Bill Engelhardt, Director
Bill Engelhardt has been the Director of the Curriculum and Instructional Technology department for over 6 years. Bill has a varied background having been a classroom teacher, media coordinator, technology trainer, telementor and a technology consultant. During his time as director, he has assembled a great team of dedicated and enthusiastic co-workers that include a program manager, two technology trainers, and an administrative assistant. The department provides staff development for both preservice and inservice educators, student leadership academies, community learning opportunities, software preview, digital media creation and duplication services, distant learning, and numerous education and business partnerships that promote viable learning environments.

Marilyn Penko, Staff Development Technician
Marilyn Penko is a Staff Development Technician for SJCOE Professional Development Center. She has been employed in the education field for more than 15 years. She has previously taught classes for San Joaquin County Office of Education, California State University, Stanislaus, Fresno Pacific University and is currently part of the the faculty for Teacher Development (IMPACT). Marilyn thoroughly enjoys training both students and adults in various computer applications which run the gamet from the Internet, creating movies on the computer, newsletters for the classroom, grading programs for teachers, and more.

Maryanne Friend, Staff Development Technician
Maryanne Friend is a Staff Development Technician for the Professional Development Center and has worked for SJCOE for approximately 4 years. Both Maryanne and Marilyn are responsible for training students and adults in various applications such as iMovie, PowerPoint, Classroom Publisher and many more. Maryanne is also part of the Teacher Development faculty (IMPACT) and provides intern teachers with the state required technology skills needed to obtain their teaching credentials.

Toni Gutierrez, Administrative Assistant
Toni Gutierrez is the Administrative Assistant for the Professional Development Center and has worked for SJCOE for about 1 1/2 years. Toni has brought with her over ten years experience as an Administrative Assistant. Besides her administrative experience, Toni has completed several computer courses in both hardware and software, which makes helping others easier.
