Early Childhood Education

SJCOE, Early Childhood Education takes the lead role in a variety of projects that promote early education for early care professionals and parents. Our Child Care Professional Growth Project offers stipends to professionals who care for children at non-state funded private centers, licensed family child care facilities, and Head Start programs. The AB212 Staff Retention Incentive Program offers stipends to state-funded child care professionals and teachers at state preschool programs. Our District School Readiness Program works closely with parents, providers, and teachers to build the bridge between early child care and education and the Kindergarten classroom. The Apprenticeship program offers free child development classes to individuals working in the child care field. Our Centralized Eligibility List (CEL) online search system is a simple way for parents seeking subsidized child care with quick placement.

The department provides coordination for the Children's Services Coordinating Commission and the Local Child Care Planning Council which are two legislative mandates that are supported through grants from the State Department of Social Services and Department of Education. We also facilitate and conduct an on-going extensive countywide Child Care Needs Assessment in addition to developing and maintaining a comprehensive resource directory of services for children and families.
