SJCOE: Where Dreams Begin

San Joaquin County Office of Education: Where endless possibilities start with your dreams...

During this time, when the budget seems to preoccupy everyone's discussions, let's not forget about what we are charged to do. Our purpose is to help students grow, and soar to new heights socially, emotionally, and academically.

San Joaquin County, Office of Education strives to impact its 14 school districts, more than 136,000 elementary and secondary students, and nearly 7,000 teachers by providing leadership and services.

In this report you will find a plethora of data, statistics, and general information about SJCOE and its schools. While it is my goal for you to understand our achievements, it is also important not to lose sight of what the numbers represent...our children.

For that reason, this report highlights a few of our students whose stories are testaments of those who succeed everyday in our shcools and programs. This Annual Report focuses on students who attend Venture Academy's San Joaquin Career and Technical High School, Teacher Development, Special Education, and Foster Youth Services; all are programs that foster sensational improvement and growth for our children and adults.

Since this growth and achievement cannot be demonstrated simply through words, nor through test scores, we developed this multimedia component. I encourage you to review each video to learn more about each of these amazing individuals.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for reading SJCOE's 2007-2008 Annual Report. Working together we can ensure a better education and brighter future for all San Joaquin students.

Fredrick "Rick" Wentworth, Ed.D.
San Joaquin County Superintendent of Schools

What is SJCOE? Calfornia's Constitution establishes county offices of education to provide support infrastructure for local schools and districts. They also fulfill state mandates to audit district finances, register teacher credentials, certify school attendance records, and develop countywide programs to serve special student populations.

During this time, when the budget seems to preoccupy everyone's discussions, let's not forget about what we are charged to do. Our purpose is to help students grow, and soar to new heights socially, emotionally, and academically.
