The San Joaquin County Office of Education Early Childhood Education Summer Bridge Camp program is devoted to supporting families as they prepare their children entering kindergarten and schools as they prepare to receive the first-time students. Summer Bridge Camps are funded by First Five San Joaquin under the School Readiness Rural Home Visitation program and target students living within the following elementary school attendance areas: Monticello, Traina, Hawkins, New Hope, New Jerusalem, Banta, and Oak View.
Summer Bridge Camp schedules are developed in collaboration with each school district and classes are typically three hours per day for one week. Parents and students participating in Bridge Camp have an opportunity to become familiar with the school campus and daily routines while interacting with other incoming kindergarten students. School administrators, with support from clerical staff, are involved with Bridge Camp implementation and all camps are run by kindergarten teachers. In addition to daily curricular activities, Bridge Camps also provide an opportunity for health related screening and kindergarten readiness assessments which enable families to begin their first school experience well prepared for the year to come.
